How it works

SixStar provides training scholarships every year to help those passionate about a career in hotel management to achieve their dreams

Here's a quick summary of how it works:

  1. Applicants apply online.

  2. They include a reference (preferably from an existing employer).

  3. Applicants apply separately to their chosen course provider. The course must lead to a nationally recognised hotel management NZQA qualification.

  4. Applications are reviewed by the SixStar Selection Committee. We consider each person's ability and employment history, plus the relevance of their chosen course, its national qualification status and the support from their referee (especially if they are an employer within the hospitality industry).

  5. We inform applicants of our decision. This is dependent upon funds available and course relevance.

  6. If successful, we pay tuition fees directly to the course provider.

  7. Applicants let us know how they got on at the end of the course.

Graduate stories

  • Annabelle Lindberg

Annabelle Lindberg joined Queenstown Resort College in 2018 and enrolled into our Diploma of Hospitality Management programme.

After spending some time working in the Hospitality Industry, like many people, the introduction of Covid interrupted her career plans. However, it also presented her the opportunity to pursue another goal, to open her own business.

  • Toby Munro

Toby Munro is one of our 2016 Hospitality Management graduates.

Originally from Nelson, Toby was considering a career in hotel management and looking for a tertiary provider that would provide him with the right tourism and hospitality skills and opportunities to fast-track into management.
