Our Vision
Our vision is to raise professional standards within the New Zealand hospitality industry by supporting talented individuals.
To achieve this, we provide a number of scholarships every year to cover tuition fees of hotel management training courses leading to recognised management qualifications.
The Board of Trustees of the Philanthropic Charitable Trust set up SixStar in 2009 not only to raise professional standards, but also to provide New Zealanders with the opportunity to improve their career prospects within our industry and to attract more people into hotel management as a rewarding, long-term career.
Due to the wide variety of course providers and qualifications available, the Trust established an awards process for scholarship students who successfully attain an NZQA-recognised qualification in hotel management to Level 6.
We hope that successful applicants take pride in wearing their SixStar pin and that employers recognise that this reflects the attainment of a nationally accepted level of competence and skill.
Looking ahead, the Board will work with course providers and the industry as a whole, to encourage a return to a national standard system. We believe this will benefit everyone involved, from employers, employees and course providers to hospitality customers themselves.
Until then, SixStar will carefully select the most enthusiastic and capable applicants to receive funding that will help them benefit from industry recognised courses and nationally recognised qualifications.
